A computer system is composed of several essential components that work together to process information and perform various tasks. Here are the main components of a computer system with examples:

  • Central Processing Unit (CPU): The CPU is the “brain” of the computer that performs most of the processing tasks. It interprets and executes instructions and manages the flow of data within the computer. Examples of CPUs include Intel Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 9.

  • Random Access Memory (RAM): RAM is a type of volatile memory that temporarily stores data and instructions that the CPU needs to access quickly. It is used to temporarily store data and applications that are currently in use. Examples of RAM include DDR4, DDR5, or LPDDR4.

  • Storage Devices: Storage devices are used to store data and programs permanently. There are two main types of storage devices: hard disk drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD). An example of an HDD is the Western Digital Red, and an example of an SSD is the Samsung 970 Evo.

  • Input Devices: Input devices are used to enter data and commands into the computer. Examples of input devices include the keyboard, mouse, touchpad, and stylus.

  • Output Devices: Output devices are used to display or print the results of data processing. Examples of output devices include the monitor, printer, and speakers.

  • Motherboard: The motherboard is a printed circuit board that connects and controls all the other components of the computer system. It contains slots for the CPU, RAM, and other expansion cards. Examples of motherboards include the ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Hero and the Gigabyte AORUS Master.

  • Power Supply Unit (PSU): The PSU is responsible for converting AC power from the wall outlet into DC power that the computer components can use. Examples of PSUs include the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 and the Corsair RM750x.
