Librarian Grade II Examination Syllabus

Scheme and Syllabus of Competitive Examination for the Post of Librarian Grade-II

The examination shall carry 400 marks, with two papers of 200 marks each.

PAPER I: General Knowledge

The question paper will carry a maximum of 200 marks, with a duration of 2:00 hours and 100 multiple-choice questions. Negative marking for incorrect answers applies.

  • Geographical, Historical, Cultural, and general knowledge of Rajasthan.
  • Current Affairs of Rajasthan.
  • General knowledge of the world and India.
  • Educational Psychology.

Paper-II: Knowledge Organization, Information Processing, and Retrieval

This paper also carries a maximum of 200 marks, with a 2:00-hour duration and 100 multiple-choice questions. Negative marking applies as in Paper I.

  • Universe of Knowledge, Structure and Attributes, Modes of Formation of Subjects, Different Types of Subjects, Universe of Subjects as Mapped in Different Schemes of Classification.
  • Bibliographic Description, Catalog Purpose, Structure, and Types; Physical Forms Including OPAC; Filing Rules. Normative Principles of Cataloging; Overview of Principles of Practice in Document Description; Current Trends in Standardization, Description, and Exchange; Standard Code of Cataloging.
  • Methods of Knowledge Organization. General Theory of Library Classification; Normative Principles of Classification and Their Applications; Species of Library Classification; Standard Schemes of Classification and Their Features; CC, DDC, UDC; Notation: Need, Functions, Characteristics; Design and Development of Schemes of Library Classification; Standard Sub-Division Index; Trends in Library Classification.
  • Subject Classification. Principles of Subject Classification; Subject Heading Lists and Their Features.
