Library consortia
Library consortia are groups of libraries that come together to pool their resources and collaborate on initiatives that benefit their patrons. Library consortia allow libraries to achieve greater economies of scale, share resources, and provide patrons with access to a wider range of materials and services.
Examples of library consortia include:
-
OCLC: The Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) is a global library consortium that provides libraries with shared cataloging, resource sharing, and reference services.
-
Lyrasis: Lyrasis is a library consortium that provides libraries with shared technology and content services, including digital preservation, hosting and management, and metadata services.

By working together, library consortia can provide their patrons with access to a wider range of resources, reduce costs, and improve the overall quality of services provided by individual libraries. Library consortia also provide libraries with the opportunity to collaborate on initiatives that benefit their patrons, such as digital preservation, shared technology services, and interlibrary loan programs.
In India, there are several library consortia that bring together libraries from different regions, types, and sizes to collaborate and share resources. Some examples of Indian library consortia include:
