• A Master’s Degree in Library Science, Information Science, or Documentation Science (or equivalent), with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade).
• A consistently good academic record, with knowledge of computerization of a library.
• Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR, or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree as per UGC regulations.
• Ph.D. candidates registered before July 11, 2009, are exempted from NET/SLET/SET subject to fulfilling certain conditions (listed below).
• The Ph.D. degree has been awarded in the regular mode.
• The Ph.D. thesis has been evaluated by at least two external examiners.
• An open Ph.D. viva voce has been conducted.
• Two research papers from the Ph.D. work have been published, at least one in a refereed journal.
• At least two papers based on the Ph.D. work have been presented in conferences/seminars sponsored/funded by UGC/ICSSR/CSIR or similar agencies.

Note: The fulfilment of these conditions must be certified by the Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of the University concerned. NET/SLET/SET shall not be required for candidates in Master’s Programmes for which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted.
